Join us for our third featured fundraising event of the year, as we come together to hike Slieve Binnian in support of PIPS Suicide Prevention Charity and the life saving work they do every day.

Every step on this hike represents something bigger. It is for those we have lost, for those still struggling and for the people who show up every day to provide support when it is needed most.

Please wear:

  • Sturdy walking boots with good grip
  • Comfortable walking trousers or leggings
  • A moisture-wicking base layer
  • Warm layers such as a fleece
  • A waterproof jacket
  • Waterproof trousers if possible
  • Hat and gloves (weather dependent)

The hike is expected to take approximately 4–6 hours, including rest stops. Timings may vary depending on weather conditions and the pace of the group.

Who is delivering the hike?2026-07-01T11:01:25+01:00

The hike will be led by experienced mountain guides from Geology Rocks, who are fully qualified and knowledgeable about the Mourne Mountains. They will ensure the group enjoys a safe, enjoyable, and informative experience throughout the day.

Where is the hike taking place?2026-07-01T11:04:02+01:00

The hike takes place on Slieve Binnian, one of the most iconic peaks in the Mourne Mountains, offering spectacular views of the surrounding landscape and coastline.

How difficult is the hike?2026-07-01T11:05:05+01:00

This is a moderate mountain hike. Participants should have a reasonable level of fitness and be comfortable walking on uneven terrain, steep inclines, and mountain paths for several hours.

Participants should arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time to allow for registration, safety briefings, and introductions.

Do I need previous hiking experience?2026-07-01T11:06:47+01:00

Previous mountain hiking experience is not essential. Participants should be physically fit, prepared for mountain terrain, and able to follow the guidance of the hike leaders.

We recommend bringing:

  • A small backpack
  • At least 1.5 litres of water
  • Packed lunch
  • High-energy snacks
  • Any personal medication
  • Fully charged mobile phone
  • Spare warm layer
  • Sun cream and sunglasses if sunny
  • Completed Health Declaration Form

Walking boots are essential. Mountain terrain can be uneven, rocky, and slippery, making suitable footwear essential for comfort and safety.

Participants must be aged 18 or over unless otherwise agreed with the organiser. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult and have permission from event organisers.

What happens if the weather is bad?2026-07-01T11:10:09+01:00

Participant safety is our highest priority. Geology Rocks will monitor weather conditions closely. If conditions are considered unsafe, the route may be altered, postponed, or cancelled. It is an outdoor event and please bare in mind there could be changeable weather on the day.

The event is covered by the relevant insurance arrangements held by the organisers and professional guides. Participants must complete a medical declaration before they set off to ensure they are medically fit to take part.

What if I have a medical condition?2026-07-01T11:11:13+01:00

Having a medical condition does not exclude you from the hike, however if you do, we need to know so that we can adapt the session if possible, for you. Please inform the organisers at your earliest opportunity of any relevant medical conditions, allergies, or medications that may affect your participation. This information will be treated confidentially and should also be included in your completed health declaration form.

Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted on this organised group hike unless specifically stated otherwise by the organisers.

Limited public toilet facilities will be available at the start near the meeting point, but there are no toilet facilities on the mountain route itself.

Participants should bring their own lunch, snacks, and water.

Do I need to raise sponsorship?2026-07-01T11:13:53+01:00

We encourage participants to raise a minimum of £75 sponsorship in support of PIPS Charity. Every pound raised helps support suicide prevention, crisis intervention, and mental health services across Northern Ireland.

Once registered, a fundraising page will automatically be set up for each participant.

Can I transfer my place to someone else?2026-07-01T11:14:51+01:00

Please contact the organisers if you can no longer attend. Transfers may be possible depending on event arrangements and participant information requirements.

What should I do if I need to cancel?2026-07-01T11:15:19+01:00

Contact the organisers as soon as possible. The registration fee is not refundable unless the event is cancelled by the charity or Geology Rocks.
