Deborah Sloan

Deborah is a freelance writer, writing on a range of contemporary societal and cultural issues. She writes regularly for local publications and is a frequent contributor to BBC Radio programmes. Her first non-fiction book was published in March 2025.

Prior to moving into writing as a vocational career, Deborah worked in academia and has over twenty years’ experience in the higher education sector, primarily at Ulster University. Deborah developed and led a number of professional development programmes, working closely with key stakeholders to deliver innovative learning to support the NI economy. A key part of Deborah’s role was pastorally supporting students through their university experience. In 2019, Deborah established a university-wide women’s network.

Deborah currently serves as a school governor at Euston Street Primary School in Belfast where she is passionate about ensuring the best educational outcomes for all. She was also previously a trustee and Chair of Community Evaluation Northern Ireland (CENI), a not-for-profit Board. Deborah is pleased to join PIPS Board and is highly committed to its vision and mission, to help individuals and families who have been impacted by suicide and to ensure that the organisation continues to be equipped to respond to those seeking support in times of crises.
