World Mental Health Day

“Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change”

This year’s World Mental Health Day theme highlights the vital importance of listening to people with lived experience and ensuring their voices help shape the support and services they need. At PIPS Suicide Prevention, that means recognising a simple reality: crisis doesn’t follow a Monday-to-Friday timetable.

Crisis Doesn’t Wait for Working Hours

A difficult moment might come on a Friday evening, a Saturday when everything feels overwhelming, or a Sunday night when the week ahead feels impossible. Those experiences matter, and when someone needs support, they shouldn’t have to think: “I’ll have to wait until Monday.”

"Lived experience gives us an understanding that cannot come from statistics alone. It tells us what it feels like to struggle, to reach out for help, and to need someone there when other services may be closed."

Our Weekend Crisis Hopeline exists because support needs to reflect the reality of people’s lives. This World Mental Health Day, we’re recognising those real voices and ensuring support responds when it is needed most.
